When you cross two legendary strains, you expect something special. That’s exactly what happened when Girl Scout Cookies and Blueberry were bred together to create Blue Cookies (also known as Blue GSC and Blue Girl Scout Cookies), an indica-dominant hybrid that can have an indica/sativa ratio as high as 90/10.

The flavor? Delicious, with a mix of blueberry from (naturally) Blueberry and the cherry and skunk mix that GSC is known for. The high? A potent euphoric, and stimulating cerebral experience, combined with powerful, numbing body relaxation that doesn’t usually lead to couch-lock. The flower? A beautiful mix of green and purple runs through the buds, which are covered with a thick layer of resin.

The THC potency of Blue Cookies can vary somewhat, but it’s a strong and satisfying strain, and a little goes a long way. Blue Cookies has won a Cannabis Cup for best medical marijuana.

Effects and Side Effects

Blue Cookies doesn’t waste any time. Almost as soon as you take your first hit, your brain is slammed with a wave of euphoria that eliminates stress and worries. It’s an energizing high that might cause some users to space out, but much more likely is an invigorating, motivating buzz that can lean toward the creative. Many find Blue Cookies to be a great daytime strain for that reason.

The effects eventually spread from the head to the body, in the form of an extremely relaxing body high which is usually not incapacitating. Instead, users are typically able to move around and take advantage of the energy provided by Blue Cookies. In fact, this strain is one of the most popular choices for those looking for an aphrodisiac; the happy and energetic experience can take on a new dimension in bed.

One caution is important, though. Some supplies of Blue Cookies may have far greater THC content than the average as tested in labs, meaning that new users can be overwhelmed by more than just a few tokes of this weed. Anxiety, racing thoughts, panic attacks, and paranoia can be the result, particularly among users who are already suffering from anxiety. Go slow until you know exactly what weed strain you’ve purchased.

Those same effects are also possible for experienced users who consume much more Blue Cookies than they “need.” Otherwise, typical side effects like dry eyes and dry throat are the most common, along with the possibility of dizziness.

Positive Effects:

  • Energy: 5/5
  • Creative: 4/5
  • Pain: 3/5
  • Stress: 4/5
  • Sleep: 2/5
  • Mood: 5/5

Negative Effects:

  • Paranoid: 2/5
  • Dry Mouth: 5/5
  • Dry Eyes: 5/5
  • Lethargy: 2/5
  • Cough: 4/5

Bottom Line: Blue Cookies are known for their powerful euphoric and energizing head high and total body relaxation, which are much more likely to encourage creative activities (and sex) than couch lock, although the THC content in an individual batch can intensify or reduce those effects somewhat.

Medical Conditions

The euphoria and body relaxation of Blue Cookies make it a solid choice for patients who are dealing with mental health issues like stress, depression, and other mood disorders. (Please remember the warning about patients with existing anxiety problems, though.)

The effects of the strain are also praised by those dealing with chronic pain, headaches, and muscle cramps, and some use it to help with ADD/ADHD because of the mental focus it provides.

It’s worth noting that some batches of Blue Cookies may contain as much as 2% CBD, which may be one reason that patients find this strain to be so effective against a variety of illnesses and conditions. It’s also worth noting (for a second time) that Blue Cookies has won a Cannabis Cup for best medical weed.

Flavor and Aroma

Expect to immediately notice a sweet blueberry scent in Blue Cookies, but there’s much more to the bud’s aroma: fruit, cookies, and a noticeable dank smell as well.

The taste of this strain doesn’t disappoint. The blueberry sweetness is mixed with cherry, cookies, or candy, and a rather strong skunk flavor that lingers after the exhale. The overall flavor is sweet, sour, and earthy.

Flavor and Aroma Ratings:

  • Earthy: 4/5
  • Citrus: 2/5
  • Fruity: 4/5
  • Spice: 1/5
  • Wood: 2/5

Cannabinoids and Terpenes

We’ve mentioned several times that the THC levels in Blue Cookies can vary quite a bit.

The tests we rely on say that the average THC content of Blue Cookies is 17%, which is potent but certainly not staggering. However, most strains only fluctuate slightly within that range.

Blue Cookies is different. You may find some flowers at dispensaries that are 15% THC, but you might also find some with a whopping 25% THC or even more. Ask your budtender how strong the weed is before purchasing. CBD, as we’ve also mentioned, can vary between 0.5% and 2%.

The terpenes most prevalent in Blue Cookies are myrcene, camphene, limonene, caryophyllene, and geraniol.

Lineage

The Girl Scout Cookies x Blueberry heritage of Blue Cookies certainly explains its power and indica leanings. Both parent strains are high in THC, and both provide euphoric highs and strong relaxation that are similar to the effects of Blue Cookies. The Cookies heritage is certainly obvious.

It should be noted that some believe that this strain is the product of crossing Florida OG and F1 Durb, but that’s a minority opinion.

Similar Strains

It’s difficult (and perhaps foolhardy) to suggest “similar strains” for such an impressive weed. However, you might consider Strawberry Cough, Alien Cookies, or Berner Cookies if you’re looking for an alternative. For blueberry flavor, try Berry White, Blueberry Bliss, or of course, the original Blueberry strain.

Blue Cookies Strain Review: FAQ

Q: How easy is it to find Blue Cookies?
A: It’s not too difficult if you live on the West Coast, which makes sense since rumor has it that the strain was created in Washington State (the breeder has never been publicly identified). Elsewhere in the country, you may find it more difficult to locate a dispensary that carries Blue Cookies.

Q: Can you grow it at home instead?
A: You can, and it’s not a particularly difficult plant to grow. But like most outstanding strains, it’s difficult to know whether you’re buying authentic Blue Cookies seeds or ones created by growers trying to ride the strain’s wave of popularity. The best bet, if you want the real deal, is to find someone who is already growing Blue Cookies and ask for a cutting.
